Manslaughter 1st Degree

On December 23, 2017 at approximately 1830 hours, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department investigated a shooting incident in the 17000 block of County Road 3520. The victim, Tanya Elaine Johnson, age 34, of Rolla, Missouri was transported to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla for treatment of a gunshot wound. She was subsequently flown to University Medical Center in Columbia and later pronounced dead at 2008 hours by the attending physician.


During the early stages of the investigation, it was determined that Dallas T. Hogue, age 26 of St. James, Missouri was present during the shooting incident, was a convicted felon and had been in possession of a firearm.


On January 10, 2018, the Grand Jurors of Phelps County indicted Dallas T. Hogue.  They charge that the defendant, Dallas T. Hogue committed the class C felony of Involuntary Manslaughter 1st degree.  On or about December 23, 2017, in the County of Phelps, the defendant, Dallas T. Hogue recklessly caused the death of Tanya Johnson by shooting her.  He was also indicted for the class D felony of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.  Dallas T. Hogue knowingly possessed a handgun, and he had previously been convicted of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm on January 16, 2014 and felony resisting arrest on September 8, 2011.





An autopsy was performed on December 26, 2017.  The cause of death was due to a single gunshot wound to her back.


A joint investigation by the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, Phelps County Coroner, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol into this death is on-going.
